Pokémon Update: Diancie, New Movie Info and DLC rumours!

Pokémon X and Y (Diancie)
With it now being over four months since the release of Pokémon X and Y and a few more months since reports first emerged of several hidden Pokémon in the game’s code, it came as no surprise last week when Nintendo and The Pokémon Company finally confirmed the existence of one of the hidden Pokémon.

Called Diancie, this new Pokémon is number #719 on the Pokédex and is a sexless Pokémon that is classed as being a Rock and Fairy type. More information then became available when scans from the latest issue of Japanese magazine CoroCoro were released and when translated told us that the new legendary Pokémon’s ability is that of Clear Body, which prevents opponents from using moves to lower any of Diancie’s ability values. The description goes on tell us that the Pokémon may lower its own stats with its own moves. Mere days later we were then treated to a video of Diancie in action during which we are told that more information on how to catch this mythical Pokémon will be coming soon.

Rumours suggest that it is likely to revolve around a special promotion for the new movie, Pokémon the Movie XY: The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie, which is due to be released in Japan on July 19th. The official site for the movie was updated with new information, including a plot synopsis (translation via Serbii.net):

“The story is set in Diamond Ore Country, of which Diancie is the princess. This is a country located deep underground, where the Pokémon Carbink live together in peace. The energy source of this country is a giant diamond called the Sacred Diamond, which can only be created by princess Diancie. However, the current princess doesn’t yet possess the power to create such a diamond, and the current Sacred Diamond’s power is soon going to run out, which would result in the end of the country. Diancie meets up with Ash and Pikachu, and set off together with them to search for the legendary Pokemon Xerneas, which possesses sacred power, but on the way, they find the cocoon where the Destruction Pokémon, Yveltal, who was said to have once destroyed life in Kalos, lies in wait.”

As well as the likelihood that this Pokémon could be based around the promotion of the movie in Japan, it could also be a part of some global Pokémon event that we have yet to hear about.

Speaking of global events, there have been rumours surfacing recently about the possibility of Pokémon X and Y DLC soon being released. The rumours have come from Japanese gaming site 4Gamer and claim that very soon gamers will be able to easily get access to not only Mewtwo and the relevant Mega Stone but also one of the legendary bird Pokémon, Articuno, Moltres or Zapdos. Whilst many are speculating that this rumour is related to some DLC, a quick read through the page (with the help of Google Translate) seems to indicate that this is in fact describing how you actually get Mewtwo and the legendary bird Pokémon using the process that is already part of the game once you beat the Pokémon League.

It also mentions something about a “battle test” involving five trainers which may or may not be connected to the Battle Institute which can be found on the North Boulevard of Lumiose City and has an option where you can download training scenarios from the Nintendo Network. So could this mean that we are shortly set to get the first of these scenarios and that somehow it ties in with the Legendary birds or Mewtwo? There has been no word on this from either Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company, but maybe it could be that the DLC is tied to the release of Diancie in someway? For now it would seem to be a case of having to wait and see what the future holds.

Finally in some good news (well, good news if you live in Japan), it has been announced that in next month’s CoroCoro magazine they will be running a special Mega Charizard promotion in which users of X can get hold of a Charizard and Charizardite Y, and users of Y can get the opposite, all via the use of a code printed in the pages of the magazine. There is no news on whether this promotion will end up rolling out to the rest of the world, but with both games a global smash we hope that it will find its way here too.
