Microsoft cuts price of Xbox One – New Titanfall bundle to be released (UPDATED 25/02/14)

Xbox One Titanfall BundleFrom 28 February, Microsoft will be dropping the price of the Xbox One to £399.99. That’s £30 off the retail price of £429.99 when the console was released back in November 2013. On top of this they will be launching a new Xbox One bundle, which comes with a copy of Titanfall.

The new bundle will also cost £399.99. As well coming with the Xbox One and a controller, it will include a download code for a digital copy of Titanfall, a Kinect sensor, an Xbox One Headset and a month’s Xbox Live Gold membership. This bundle will be available in the UK from 14 March, when Titanfall is released. It is already up for pre-order at the Microsoft Store.

This bundle will retail in the US as well for $499.99 (so essentially, US gamers are now able to purchase an Xbox One for the standard retail price, only now they get a must-have game).

“We believe there’s never been a better time to join the new console generation,” said Xbox’s UK marketing director Harvey Eagle. Of the reduction, Eagle said, “The reason we’re doing this is that we’re committed to giving gamers the best value we can. We’re only a few months into a generation of consoles that are going to last for many many years to come. And now just feels like the right time to make the adjustment on the price.”

Timing is one thing, though some would argue that the reduction stems from the sales of the Xbox One, which according to VGChartz has so far sold 3.3 million consoles globally. A great number, but clearly behind when compared to Sony’s PlayStation 4, with Sony having recently confirmed to shifting over five million units worldwide.

Does this price cut sway you into purchasing an Xbox One?

UPDATE (25/02/14):

In what’s set to be the start of a price war, MCV have reported that GameStop are currently taking pre-orders for the Xbox One bundle with Titanfall at a reduced price of £369.97.
