The Tension Builds In Official International Japanese Trailer For Godzilla

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD:godzilla-2014-poster-6REAL

It’s almost two weeks until Gareth Edwards‘ upcoming science fiction, monster blockbuster Godzilla hits the big screen worldwide. As if the tension and hype for the film wasn’t already high enough, now a new international Japanese trailer has been released.

This latest trailer seems to be focusing on one thing: The build up of the monster, and it is handled perfectly. To those who’ve seen the film’s earlier trailers, this doesn’t seem like it would be anything new. However, the amount of tension created by only a minute and a half of film footage is very large and impressive.

The trailer makes the smart move of not revealing the monster. Also we can all see that the CGI of the monster is very impressive, the massive foot shown near the end is jaw dropping and even realistic. The trailer also seems to reveal a few scenes from the WonderCon footage such as a short clip of the monster rising up from the water, whilst horrified soldiers look on. What’s also really interesting is that a lot of the scenes in this trailer look like that they could be from the climax of the film: With a lot of “Can you kill it?” lines and a huge army awaiting the battle with the monster, this is setting up to be a major, epic blockbuster climax.

Sure there is still plenty of monster movie destruction, doomed civilians running for their lives and nuclear scientist Joe Brody (played by Bryan Cranston) running and shouting in anger, but if anyone is concerned that the film will be a generic action blockbuster, you need not worry. There is a very well written line in the trailer delivered by scientist, Dr. Ichiro Serizawa (played by Ken Watanabe): “The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control.” This is a very meaningful and thought provoking line.

For all those reasons and more, this trailer for Godzilla seems to be building up the tension and making the world ready for the arrival when the film is released on 15 May. Check it out.
