Whether it was the collectable figures, the compelling soundtrack by John Williams or simply the storyline, Star Wars is a property that undoubtedly everybody has heard of.  With May 4th quickly approaching, many fans were certain that they were going to receive news about the new Disney produced Star Wars: Episode VII, and with rumours of a complete cast reading due any day now, the cast were confirmed in a Facebook post on the Star Wars fan page.

An image was released in which the cast were preparing to do a big table read. However the exciting news doesn’t come from the read itself, or the return of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, but much rather the new additions to the cast. It was announced that John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow were to join the cast in this new entry of the Star Wars franchise.

Domhall Gleeson is an Irish actor, in which his most notable role is Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise. He is also the son of actor Brendan Gleeson. John Boyega is a British actor whose most notable role was also his debut movie role, as Moses in Attack the Block. Daisy Ridley is a British actress who has mostly appeared in small roles for television programmes such as Casualty, Mr Selfridge and Silent Witness. As director J.J. Abrams announced earlier, there will be a trio of new young leads, and Gleeson, Boyega and Ridley are the suspected trio.

Oscar Issacc, Max von Sydow, Adam Driver and Andy Serkis are others who have been cast in the film. It is widely reported that Adam Driver will be playing the villain in this film, whilst Andy Serkis is the master of motion capture, so he may be expected to take on the role of a CG character.

With anticipation high, and May 4th still yet to come, what other Star Wars news will we be blessed with?

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to be released in theatres December 18th, 2015.
