Warner Bros. Releases New Trailer for Chris Nolan’s Interstellar

305233id1d_Interstellar_Teaser_Intl_27x40_1Sheet.inddFollowing the release of a teaser trailer back in December, Warner Bros has today published a new, more story-based trailer for upcoming Christopher Nolan film, Interstellar.

Set in a dystopian future in which humanity is running out of food, Interstellar appears to focus on pilot and engineer Cooper, played by Matthew McConaughey. Though it’s not clear precisely what’s gone wrong on earth, in the new trailer, we see Cooper faced with a dilemma: leave the planet for the good of humanity and risk never seeing his children again, or stay behind with them and watch the world fall to pieces.

Things look bad, with Michael Caine providing an ominous sounding voice-over (“We’re not meant to save the world – we’re meant to leave it”), while Cooper shares some heart-wrenching moments with his kids after making the decision to go. Just to hit home even more that things are getting pretty bad, Cooper’s daughter is called Murphy, which leads to a discussion of Murphy’s Law thanks to her brother.

Despite this, though, there’s a strong note of hope throughout, with Cooper and the interstellar explorers he is set to join looking forward to a brighter future, while Caine makes the inspiring statement, “We must think not as individuals, but as a species”. Cooper even insists to his confused young daughter that Murphy’s law “doesn’t mean something bad will happen. It means that whatever can happen, will happen.”

Until now, there’s been little information available about the plot, other than the brief synopsis below, so this new trailer will be welcome to those who’ve been waiting for details for months:

“Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.”
