Meet Mega Sableye – Mega Evolution Returns in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Mega Sableye

The news you’ve all been waiting for is finally here: Mega Evolution will be making a return in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games, with new Pokémon gaining the ability to Mega Evolve!

Ever since the release of the Pokémon X and Y versions, Pokéfans the world over have been wondering whether or not the Mega Evolution feature they introduced would continue on into the next generation of Pokémon games. Mega Evolution, which allows a Pokémon to temporarily evolve during battle, boosting its stats without using up a turn, is triggered through the combined use of a Mega Ring (worn by the trainer or player character) and some mysterious stones, each designed to be held by specific kinds of Pokémon.

According to this month’s issue of CoroCoro Magazine, the hotly anticipated Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire versions – 3DS revamps of the Generation III GameBoy Advance games, Ruby and Sapphire – will not only incorporate the new Mega Evolution feature, but will also extend it to other types of Pokémon, including Sceptile, Swampert, Latias, Latios, Diancie and, as show in the video clip below, the gem-hoarding Dark/Ghost type Sableye. In addition, it looks like May has bagged herself a pretty snazzy looking Mega Ring:

Since dual Ghost and Dark types (that is, Sableye and Spiritomb) are weak only against the new Fairy type, Mega Sableye is likely to be one formidable foe. Sableye joins the current list of 26 Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution.

On top of this exciting news, CoroCoro also mentions other changes, notably a new “Ancient Devolution” feature. Operating on Primal/Prehistoric/Primeval Pokémon, this process will work similarly to Mega Evolution, and will see certain Pokémon revert back to a so-called “prehistoric state”. Though, according to Serebii, “full details of the feature are not yet known”, the site does list Groudon and Kyogre as the first named “Prehistoric Pokémon”.
