Hello! Project Berryz Koubou announce indefinite hiatus

It is with sadness that Japanese idol girl group Berryz Koubou have decided to put their unit on hiatus indefinitely starting in spring 2015. This announcement was made at their Hello! Project 2014 Summer ~ Korezo!~ concert.

Hello! Project idol group Berryz Koubou formed in 2004 after enduring four years of hard and rigorous training. They recently celebrated their tenth anniversary in January. The group currently consists of 22-year old Saki Shimizu, Momoko Tsugunaga, Chinami Tokunaga and Maasa Sudou, 21-year old Miyabi Natsuyaki and Yurina Kumai, and 20-year old Risako Suga. Kumai recently celebrated her 21st birthday. Berryz Koubou has performed theme songs for Inazuma Eleven and Patalliro Saiyuki, as well as the main theme song for the feature film Futari wa Precure Max Heart 2: Yukizora no Tomodachi.

They became so popular that in 2011 they had their first concert in America at the Sakura-Con with an audience of just over 3,500.

Member Maasa Sudou wrote on her blog that about a year ago they had a discussion about future plans. They decided to say that they would go on an indefinite hiatus, for calling it a dissolution would cause fans to think that Berryz Koubou would disappear.

Before their hiatus they will perform a live concert at Nippon Budokan in September.

No matter where they go I’m sure fans will forever support them and encourage them on any adventure they embark on.
