New release date for next-gen WWE2K15 announced

WWE Games developer 2K have announced that the upcoming release of WWE2K15 for PS4 and Xbox One will be pushed back in the UK. The PS3 and Xbox 360 release dates for the game will remain the same, October 31st. However, it won’t arrive on “next-gen” consoles till November 21st. WWE2K15 marks the first release of the WWE games series on “next-gen” consoles.

Perhaps this is a sign from long time developers Visual Concepts and Yuke’s having trouble to adapt to the new consoles, though the president of Visual Concepts, Greg Thomas, had this to say:

“Visual Concepts and Yuke’s are committed to delivering the most authentic and action-packed WWE experience to date, including release for the very first time on next-generation consoles. The additional development time enables our talented teams to ensure the WWE 2K15 next-gen experience fully meets our expectations.”

Pushed back by only a few weeks, compared to the infamous delays of Bioshock Infinite, another game published under the domain of 2K, we don’t have to wait much longer to get our hands on the most up-to-date version of the annual grappling game. 2K took over the publishing rights of the franchise from former company THQ, with 2K14 being the first game handled under the 2K banner.

Footage published of the next-gen version already looks miles ahead of the previous generations of WWE games, just in terms of graphics alone, so one can only speculate how far 2K will push the boat out this time around. There still remains no word of any PC release, despite 2K releasing the NBA franchise games on that format, and unfortunately it seems unlikely at this late stage.

Either way, the game is set to be main event material, and in the hands of 2K who have pushed the NBA franchise to new heights, one can only hope for great things come November 21st for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and October 31st for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
