20th Century Fox announce Deadpool movie!

DeadPoolMovieIt would appear that Christmas has come early for fans of a certain comic-book motor-mouthed merc, as 20th Century Fox and Marvel have confirmed that a Deadpool movie is scheduled to be released February 12th 2016!

The movie will see Ryan Reynolds return to the role that he first portrayed back in 2009 as part of the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine and he will be directed by Tim Miller.

There is no news yet as to whether the movie’s announcement is due to the phenomenal response that the recent leaked footage from a planned film received, but you can bet that the response certainly helped. Additionally, the fact that Miller is attached to the project as the director would seem to suggest that there could be some connection, and may also explain why the footage, which was originally made by his studio, was quickly removed from sites after it leaked online in July.

The character was created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Rob Liefeld back in 1991 and has gone on to become a fan favourite due in part to his witty dialogue, fantastic comebacks and his tendency to break the fourth wall. Deadpool, for those who do not know, is the alter ego of Wade Winston Wilson and has the power to heal at an accelerated rate, making him, among other things, very hard to kill.

There is no news on the plot for the movie or who else is due to star in it, all we can hope is that it is better than Reynolds’s last superhero outing as Green Lantern in 2011. Oh the horror!
