New poster and full theatrical trailer for Disney’s Cinderella

cinderella (one sheet - half)Following a teaser earlier in the year that simply revolved around a crystal-cut slipper, we now have a full theatrical trailer and a new poster to Disney’s upcoming live-action Cinderella.

The latest poster was photographed by Annie Leibovitz and features Lily James as the title character in a sparkly blue gown. It’s worth noting the slight similarity to when Leibovitz photographed Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella for the Disney Dream Portraits series.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film tells of Ella (Lily James), whose father remarries following the death of her mother. However, her father made the choice of marrying Lady Tremaine (Cate Blanchett), who comes with her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera). Ella adjusts to life with her new stepmother and stepsisters, but when her father passes away they suddenly treat her cruelly and consign her to being a servant girl, labelling her ‘Cinderella’. After the palace sends out an open invitation to attend a ball, Ella feels that her luck is about to change for the better, hoping that she can meet Kit (Richard Madden), the prince. Unfortunately, her stepmother tears her dress and forbids her to go. But help arrives in the form of a kindly beggar, who just so happens to be Ella’s Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham-Carter).

The trailer suggests a rather faithful retelling of a classic story, with an overload of vivid special effects to help bring it to life. Co-starring Hayley Atwell, Stellan Skarsgård and Derek Jacobi, Cinderella opens in the US on 13 March 2015, and in the UK on 27 March 2015.
