Release Dates for Gambit and Assassin’s Creed Movies

fox releases

20th Century Fox has announced final release dates for several of its movies. Most notably was the confirmation of a Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum, coming out 7th October 2016. The man himself announced it on Twitter.

The X-Men spin-off has been on the cards for some time and Channing Tatum was confirmed to be playing back in May, so it’s nice to have a date at last. Though there’s a chance we’ll see Gambit before then as X-Men: Apocalypse is out 27th May 2016.

Next to be confirmed was the Assassin’s Creed movie for 21st December 2016. This one had been pushed back from a 2015 release. Whether that’s because they wanted to avoid stiff competition from an already packed year of cinema or because the film needed more time, no one has said.

The good news is that Michael Fassbender is still set to star in the adaptation of the Ubisoft game. The assumption so far has been that the story will be based on the first game in the series. Although with so much material to chose from, it would be interesting to see this project go in a different direction.

Also announced was the next in the Planet of the Apes series. This was another project to be pushed back a year, with the revised release date set for 14th July 2017. But let’s hope they don’t call it Ascent of the Planet of the Apes or something equally daft. We’re still getting Dawn and Rise confused.

All dates mentioned are for the US releases, but hopefully the release dates for the UK won’t be too different. We actually got X-Men: Days of Future Past a day earlier than the US, so we’re optimistic.
