Glee premiere to include Let It Go and Take On Me (Video)

Lea Michele-Let It Go

With the show’s final season and what is being known as their final bow, it would seem that the cast and producers of Glee are determined to keep the classic covers coming. It has been confirmed that the show will not only have a version of Frozen’s Let It Go, but also a cover of 1980s classic Take On Me, complete with a neon and pencil art filled performance.

The premise for this season is simple; Sue Sylvester has disbanded the Glee club and in a bid to resurrect the club and return it to its former all singing and dancing glory, Rachel (played by Lea Michele) returns to try and thwart her nemesis once and for all.

The show is no stranger to recreating songs from any era and has had special episodes that focus on everyone from the Beatles to Madonna. So whilst it is no surprise to see them do a cover of Let It Go, it is a surprise that they were allowed to do it as most covers have been unofficial. However, when you consider that Idina Menzel who originally sang the song in Frozen plays Rachel’s mother on the show, you can see how Fox may have gotten a little help in getting approval here. But that is just a wacky conspiracy theory, what we do know, thanks to the fountain of information that is Twitter, is that Menzel enjoyed the cover, as seen in the tweet below.

For the cover of A-HA’s Take On Me, the production team and cast have clearly outdone themselves, as not only is the video full of 1980s neon type costumes, but they even produced a Glee version of the song’s groundbreaking (well it was at the time) pencil line art styled video.

Glee’s final season starts on 9 January at 8pm ET on Fox. What did you think of the Glee versions of these two songs? Let us know in the comments below.
