Skype gets scary in Unfriended trailer and poster

Unfriended one sheet posterUniversal Pictures have released a creepy trailer and poster for the upcoming horror Unfriended. The unique ‘why should I see this’ factor is that the film is played out on a computer screen in real time.

On the one year anniversary of the death of the student Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman), six high school friends get together on Skype. However, a seventh person is also in on the conversation. Nobody knows who this mystery caller is and they cannot be disconnected from the conversation. Soon the caller starts asking questions about Laura, as well as revealing the friends’ darkest secrets.

The poster displays a search engine that lists the main things connected with Laura Barns. Notably the final word to come up is “possession”, hinting at what is likely happening.

The more curious amongst you will notice the YouTube and LiveLeak links featured in the trailer, which you can actually visit.

It would appear that the film is clearly making a point in trying to get people to think about their actions on social media online. Plus, it also shows that ghosts are getting far more creative when it comes to scaring the hell out teenagers.

Unfriended originally premiered with the title Cybernatural at the Fantasia International Film Festival last year and was eventually picked up by Universal. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov and Jason Blum, it is directed by Levan Gabriadze from a script by Nelson Greaves. It also stars Shelley Hennig, Courtney Halverson, Moses Jacob Storm, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz and Jacob Wysocki.

Unfriended opens in the US on 17 April and in the UK on 1 May.
