Who You Gonna Call? All-Female Ghostbusters Cast Revealed

A few months back, director Paul Feig confirmed on Twitter that he had begun work on a brand new Ghostbusters movie with writer Kate Dippold (Parks and Recreation, MADtv). At the time, Feig stated that his contribution to the franchise would feature female stars, and today, a Hollywood Reporter exclusive revealed the four “hilarious women” chosen for the parts.

The film’s first officially confirmed lead is Melissa McCarthy, who co-starred with Sandra Bullock in Feig’s 2013 The Heat (also scripted by Dippold), as well as appearing in his 2011 hit comedy Bridesmaids.  An unsurprising choice, then, but a promising one, McCarthy has a good list of comedy credits under her belt, and her involvement has already been met with excitement.

Still in talks to fill the other three spots are Saturday Night Live‘s Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon as well as Bridesmaids star and scriptwriter Kristen Wiig. Though THR is careful not to officially confirm their involvement, a tweet from Feig featuring images of the four actors seems to suggest that the discussions are close to concluding.

A subsequent tweet from THR‘s Borys Kit announced the planned release date for the movie as 22nd July 2016.
