My Retro Game Box will send you random retro games every month

myretrogameboxIf you’re looking to build up your retro game collection, or you just tend to whine about how video games aren’t like they used to be, then My Retro Game Box might be for you. Similar to Loot Crate, My Retro Game Box is a subscription based service that sends out a random selection of retro games. And you get to keep the games.

Based in Scotland, subscription starts from as little as $35 (around £23) a month and they post worldwide (postage to the UK is free). You can choose from either PAL or NTSC titles for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Advance.

The games themselves are tested before being sent out, so are guaranteed to work, but collectors may wish to keep in mind that some games may come unboxed or without instructions.

Looking at the pictures of some of the stock on their Instagram page, they are mostly common games, however you could potentially end up with the likes of The Legend of Zelda for the NES or Super Mario Kart for the SNES.

The site draws the line at being sent a wish list of specific titles, because “otherwise it just isn’t a surprise.” However, to make sure you do get something you’ll enjoy playing, you can highlight which genre of games you’re interested in.

My Retro Game Box was started up by Katy & Stu, who describe themselves as “a family of gamers” that wanted to offer something unique rather than just another gaming shop.
