First Look of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The official first image has been revealed of Jesse Eisenberg as he will appear on-screen as DC villain Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

And it’s a bold choice for the Oscar-nominated star of The Social Network.

Free of his curly mop and sinisterly staring down the camera, Entertainment Weekly released this photo of a shaven Jesse Eisenberg in character as photographed by Clay Enos.

Previous bald baddies have included Kevin Spacey in Bryan Singer‘s Superman Returns and Michael Rosenbaum as a younger Lex Luthor in the hit US TV series Smallville.

While it is a popular choice to have a shorn Lex Luthor as the comics intended, the vainglorious villain has boasted luscious locks when portrayed by John Shea in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Gene Hackman in Richard Donner‘s Superman.

Of Eisenberg‘s spin on Lex Luthor, director Zack Snyder told Entertainment Weekly:

“He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure, other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course.”

Mysterious and enigmatic as usual, Zack.

Very little plot has been publicly revealed about the crossover film, which sees Batman go head-to-head against SupermanBen Affleck dons the brooding vigilante’s cape in his first on-screen appearance as Batman, fighting against Henry Cavill returning as Superman.

Lined up as a prequel film to an upcoming Justice League double bill, Dawn of Justice will also star Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Jeremy Irons will be appearing as Bruce Wayne‘s stoic butler, Alfred PennyworthAmy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne will also be reprising their roles from Man of Steel.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released in UK cinemas on 29 April 2016.
