Yo-Kai Watch RPG heads West

Nintendo to Publish Level-5’s videogame, as anime lands second season…

The popular Japanese RPG Yo-kai Watch will be released in other territories, following a deal with Nintendo. The company will debut the 3DS game in the US in 2016, before rolling it out to Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Korea later the same year.

Yo-Kai Watch

Yo-kai Watch centres on a boy who gets a special watch that lets him befriend and help mischievous Yo-kai and later summon them to fight other Yo-kai. Nintendo says Yo-kai are not ghosts, monsters or creatures: “Yo-kai are, quite simply, Yo-kai. They cannot be seen by the human eye, but they are everywhere. Whether born from the soul of a deceased human, or an everyday object discovering its higher purpose, their personalities are distinctly humanlike.”

The Yo-kai Watch franchise began in 2011, with a Nintendo 3DS game launching in 2013 and an anime following in 2014. A second season of the anime will premiere in July in Japan and stars a new female protagonist called Inaho Misora (played by Puella Magi Madoka Magica’s Aoi Yuki). Her character will also appear in the third Yo-kai Watch game for 3DS.
