Celebrity Deathmatch is returning to MTV with more celebrity fights!

17 years after its first episode aired, it’s time for a Celebrity Deathmatch reboot – let’s get it on!

In collaboration with series creator Eric Fogel and Wasteland Entertainment, MTV2 announced they’ll be bringing the animated series back with more celebrities to fight to the gruesome death in the claymation ring.

Originally debuting on MTV in 1998, the show aired 75 episodes between 1998 and 2002. Without Fogel and under a new production team, Celebrity Deathmatch enjoyed a short revival with its fifth series airing in 2006. But while the gore-filled comedy remained a consistently high-rated show, it was cancelled again in 2007.

The satirical send-up featured many popular celebrities fighting through real and fictional feuds, including Eminem, Liam and Noel Gallagher, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock, Sylvester StalloneMichael Jackson, Madonna and so many more.

Because where else would you see Mariah Carey hit a note so high, it makes Jim Carrey‘s head explode? Or Christian Slater claw his way out of a hungry prison guard, Little Red Riding Hood-style? …Anyway, it’s just clay!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this long-awaited reboot will “feature animated no-holds-barred fantasy fights between infamous figures from entertainment and pop culture and will be reimagined for a social media world”. Finally, those Twitter feuds will get settled (fictionally) in the claymation ring.

Here’s one of my favourites from the show: David Copperfield vs David Blaine
