The Last Ship’s Travis Van Winkle Sets Sail for MCM Manchester Comic Con

The latest guest to join the line-up for next month’s MCM Manchester Comic Con is US actor Travis Van Winkle, star of TNT’s post-apocalyptic drama The Last Ship.

Based on the novel of the same name by William Brinkley (Don’t Go Near the Water), the series is set in a future devastated by a global viral pandemic, which has wiped out 80% of the world’s population. Only one US naval ship – the fictional USS Nathan James – remains miraculously unaffected by the disease, and together, the crew must race to find a cure and save themselves – along with the rest of humanity.

Van Winkle plays Lieutenant Danny Green, leader of a special SEAL unit aboard the ship. Also starring in the series are Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) and Adam Baldwin (FireflyFull Metal JacketChuck) as Commanders Tom Chandler and Mike Slattery, and Rhona Mitra as Dr Rachel Scott (Strike BackNip/TuckBoston Legal, The GatesStargate Universe). The series is produced by Todd Arnow (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s StoneThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the GalaxyBattleshipSurrogates) and executive produced by Michael Bay.

Following a successful first season beginning in August last year, The Last Ship has been renewed for a second series, due to air on TNT in September. The show is broadcast on Sky 1 HD in the UK.

Van Winkle’s previous television roles include Dr Jonah Breeland in The CW’s dramedy series Hart of Dixie, bad boy heartthrob Rusty in Squad 85 and California University student Jamie in 90210. He has also guest-starred in various shows, including Malcolm in the MiddleThe O.C.Veronica MarsTwo and a Half Men and CSI: Miami.

Travis Van Winkle will be attending MCM Manchester on the Saturday and Sunday of the event, with autographs priced at £15 and photographs at £20. Check your show guide for full details.
