Naruto Movie Moving Forward

Former special FX wizard Michael Gracey is in talks to direct Lionsgate’s planned live-action Naruto movie, reports The Tracking Board.

Gracey may not be a familiar name but his directing talents seem much in demand at the moment so let’s file him under “up-and-coming”. His name is currently attached to projects as diverse as an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches for Warner Bros (produced by Alfonso Cuarón and Guillermo Del Toro) a Jim Henson biopic called Muppet Man, an Elton John biopic called Rocketman and 20th Century Fox’s musical The Greatest Showman On Earth about PT Barnum.

Lionsgate recently secured the rights to Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. Fromer Marvel movie producer Avi Arad, a fan of the series, is set to produce. With over 200 million copies in print, Naruto has become the third highest-selling manga in history. It concluded in November with the 72nd volume having inspired has inspired spinoff manga, two anime series, 10 animated films and numerous video games and novels.

The animated Boruto: Naruto the Movie opens next month in Japan.
