Director Hired For Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Hollywood is making a sequel to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Even more surprisingly, it’s not planned as a straight-to-DVD cheapie, and the producers are ready to wait for a gap in Jeremy Renner’s schedule to make it.

According to Deadline, commercials director Bruno Aveillan has been signed up by Paramount to hem Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2. It will be his feature film debut. Aveillan’s award-winning work on adverts for clients such as Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi and Samsung  is renowned for its blend of cinematic style and groundbreaking effects. Here’s a sample of his work:

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 will continue the all-action adventures of the witch-hunting siblings played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.  The original $50 million-budget film grossed $226 million worldwide with especially strong business outside of the US.

Original Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters director Tommy Wirkola recently revealed that he has completed work on the project’s screenplay and that the biggest production hurdle has been about finding time in star Jeremy Renner’s busy schedule.

Y’know what? Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was a huge slab of dumb fun, so good luck to Paramount turning it into a franchise.
