Is Booster Gold Absent From Legends Of Tomorrow Because He’s Getting His Own Film?

Legends Of Tomorrow, the pick’n’mix, timey-wimey spin-off from The Flash/Arrow TV shows featuring a vast roster of DC superheroes, will not feature Booster Gold, because, teases showrunner Phil Klemmer to The Hollywood Reporter, “Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things.”

The obvious question is, then – and one Klemmer’s not answering – are Warners and DC prepping Booster for his own show or film?

In the comics fan-favourite Booster Gold was a glory-seeking shyster from the future who came back to the present to use his knowledge of events to come to set himself as a superhero. Originally he was more into the celebrity aspect of the job rather than the whole “truth, justice and the American way” shtick but eventually redeemed himself and formed a popular comedy double act with the Blue Beetle.

Booster was a key element in Keith Giffen and JM DeMatteis’ Justice League International series from 1987 which Klemmer says is an influence on Legends Of Tomorrow which is why the absence of Booster Gold from the series is notable.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter Klemmer reveals more about the spin-off series that stars Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter who assembles a team of both heroes and villains to travel back in time to stop evil eternal Vandal Savage.

“Some of these characters might not make it for the full trip,” he teases. “Some might be lost in time.”

He reveals that Hawkman will be over 5,000 years old having been reincarnated numerous times. He will have memories of past lives whereas the similarly reincarnated Hawkgirl will not remember her previous lives.

Meanwhile another of the show’s exec producers, Marc Guggenheim, says that he encouraged the writing staff to read Dan Jurgens 2011 comic book run Time Masters: Vanishing Point: “It’s a good series for its depiction of Rip Hunter and a crazy combination of characters.”
