Winona Ryder Says She’s Committed To Beetlejuice 2… If It Happens

With Beetlejuice 2 edging ever closer to a green light, Winona Ryder – Lydia Deetz in the original – has confirmed that she’s been in discussion with Tim Burton about it, and she’ll be back… if the film ever happens, anyway.

Speaking on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers she said, “I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview. It was very hush-hush, top secret, ‘I don’t know what may happen, I don’t know…’ And then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it and Winona’s gonna be in it.’ So can I say…? I mean if he said it. But I really don’t know much more than anybody else.”

That still doesn’t seem to mean that the film will go before the cameras but Burton seems keener than ever (that’s what a series of flops will do for you). A script is in the works from Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and author of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies*) and David Katzenberg (The Goldbergs) and it may become Burton’s next directorial project after Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children.

(*The one-joke novel that stands as testament to the old proverb, “You can’t judge a book by its cover”, because the cover was great.)
