Capcom confirms that a Resident Evil 2 remake is in development

Resident Evil 2 (Leon and Claire)Last month Capcom took to the official Resident Evil Facebook page, asking fans for their “honest and frank opinion” on a Resident Evil 2 remake. It would appear that they have listened to the feedback and are officially going ahead with it.

Yoshiaki Hirabyashi a.k.a. H, from R&D Division 1 and the producer on the title submitted a proposal to Capcom, who eventually gave the remake the green light. A “special message” from Hirabyashi was uploaded to YouTube announcing that the remake had been approved for development.

“It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved,” said Hirabyashi. “The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want.” He also explained how they will listen to the feedback from the fans in order to deliver them the gameplay experience they’ve been waiting for.

There is no news on when we can expect the game. However, Capcom had announced an HD remake for Resident Evil Zero for early next year, so we might not get our hands on the Resident Evil 2 remake till 2017.

Resident Evil 2 is regarded by many fans as one of the best games in the survival horror franchise.
