Could Castlevania Become A Gory Adult Cartoon Series For US TV?

Castlevania_III_Dracula's_CurseThere have been rumours about a live action version of legendary vampire-hunting computer game series Castlevania practically from the moment Konami released toe first game in the mid ’80s. Nothing has ever come of it but no there are plans to re-invent the franchise as adult-aimed cartoon series for US TV.

Adi Shankhar, producer of Dredd and Punisher: Dirty Laundry, has revealed that he’s developing a “super-violent” adaptation of 1989’s Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse alongside Frederator, the animation studio behind Adventure Time and Fairly Odd Parents (so, a bit of a change of direction for them, then).

“The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults,” says Shankhar, who clearly has never seen the Spawn animated series (at least, we wouldn’t show that to our children…!). He points to Akira, Ghost In The Shell, Ninja Scroll and Young Justice as the kind of tone he’s aiming to emulate. [via ComicBookResources]
