Blade Runner 2 Will Tackle The “Is Deckard A Replicant?” Mystery

Poor old Denis Villeneuve. There his is, trying to promote his new movie Crave, which was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this past weekend, and all journalists want to really talk to him about is a movie he’s not scheduled to even start shooting until summer 2016 – Blade Runner 2.

Yesterday we ran the story (see here) about how well aware Villeneuve is that Blade Runner fans will be waiting their knives out. No we have this interview from Crave Online where  he reveals that the belated sequel will address the mystery left from the first film: is Deckard a replicant?

While he’s not giving away any spoilers (“Now that I am on the other side of the fence, I cannot answer”) he does offer this: “The thing I must say is that I love mystery. I love shadows. I love doubts. I would just want to say to the fans that we will take care of that mystery. I will take care of it.”

If he has any sense, “taking care of it” won’t mean “answering it one way or the other” – because surely arguing about evidence for both cases is part of the fun of the whole Blade Runner mythos. We don’t want that taken away? Or do you beg to differ?
