••• Over 50 years after the original, Disney is developing a new live action version of Mary Poppins. It will be set around 20 years after the events in the first film though still based on the books of PL Travers (the 1964 was based on just the first book). Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is attached to direct while the songs will be provided by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash). the_x-files_2016••• Chris Carter has explained why he decided to split Mulder and Scully up for the new mini-series of The X-Files: “We do it in an interesting way,” Carter told The Hollywood Reporter. “We put some of the tension back in that was relieved by them being together. It added to the storytelling opportunities. It’s something that I came up with; I had been thinking about it. There was always talk of [breaking them up] if we did another movie.”

••• Marvel has released a synopsis for Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD season three episode one but it doesn’t reveal much we didn’t know already: “Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Agent Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) leading the charge as SHIELD searches the world for more powered people in the aftermath of their epic battle with Jiaying and her army of Inhumans. However, Coulson and the team soon find out that they are not the only group looking for these new Inhumans. When Coulson and the team discover a new Inhuman, SHIELD comes face to face with another organisation searching for powered people. And still reeling from Simmons’ dramatic disappearance, Fitz goes to extreme lengths to try to learn how to get her back.” At least now we know we’re definitely supposed to refer to Skye as Daisy now.

••• Minions has now become the second most successful animated movie world wide in terms of box office, having overtaken Toy Story 3. It only has Frozen to topple now,

••• Here’s a new trailer for YA post-apocalyptic thriller The Fifth Wave starring Chloe (Hit Girl) Moretz.
