MCM News Shorts: Jurassic World 2, Ouija 2, The Conjuring 2 (lots of number twos…)

••• Colin Trevorrow has been dropping hints about Jurassic World 2 to Empire. He won’t be directing the film this time (he’ll be busy on Star Wars Episode IX) but he will be writing it: “We know Owen is going to be in it and Claire will be in it and neither will be in the same place that we left them in this movie. Even though Claire is the one who evolves the most over the trilogy, it’s her story that mirrors this changing world. Owen has s**t to deal with. The two of them opened Pandora’s Box in Jurassic World and each of them are responsible for different elements of it in different ways, and I think the way that these characters are connected to the circumstances of what’s happening it’s different than the previous films… We’ve seen a lot of dinosaurs chasing people around on an island movies. I think the general audience is going to be down to explore where else we can go.”

••• Somehow the $5 million-costing Ouija managed to make over $1oo million at the worldwide box office so the sequel is now well underway. New cast additions for Ouija 2 include Parker Mack (Faking It), Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel (Demon Legacy) and Doug Jones (Falling Skies). They join the previously announced Henry Thomas (Betrayal), Annalise Basso (Oculus), Elizabeth Reaser (True Detective) and Lulu Wilson (Deliver Us From Evil). [via Deadline]

••• Production began on director James Wan’s The Conjuring 2 with an unusual publicity stunt when a priest came along to bless the set.

••• Titan Comics is set to publish Snowpiercer 3: Terminus on 17 February 2016. Here’s the cover.

••• Director Zack Snyder has fuelled concerns that DC has kinda lost interest in Superman as a standalone movie star and is more excited about Batman now. In an interview with Canoe, when asked if a Man Of Steel sequel was on the cards he replied, “I think in a way Batman V Superman is Man Of Steel 2. Justice League is kind of the transcendent knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.” Non-commital or what? And what of those Justice League movies he’ll be helming? “We really have to figure out the ‘why’ of them, and I think that we have. That’s the one thing that’s cool to me about Batman V Superman: it’s all about the mythology of these two massive icons. And I think that’s compelling”.
