Clive Barker To Produce A Weaveworld TV Series

weaveworld_coverThe CW is developing a TV series based on Clive Barker’s 1987 fantasy novel Weaveworld with the author himself to executive produce and Warehouse 13’s Jack Kenny as showrunner.

The book, a ghoulish mix of Narnia and Hellraiser, concerns a magical race called the Seerkind who try to remain hidden from the non-magical world and a devastating force know as the Scourge. The Seerkind have combined all of their powers to create a secret world known as The Fugue which is contained in the weave of an elaborately-patterned carpet.

The series will allegedly give a contemporary makeover to the premise of the novel taking into account rapid developments in technology since the book was originally published. So in the new TV version, an app designer teams up with a pastry chef who has just discovered that she is destined to be guardian of a mythological realm that can be accessed through a portal in an old Savannah mansion. Together, they fight an epic battle with evil forces who are vying for control of the magical world.

Various attempts to film the book have been made over the years, but it’s only wit recent developments in CG FX techniques that have made the imagery woven in words in the book affordable on a TV budget.  [via Deadline]
