Netflix To Produce 12 New Episodes Of Black Mirror

charlie_brookerNetflix has announced that it will be producing 12 episodes of Charlie Brooker’s SF anthology series Black Mirror, which is just two episodes shy of doubling the amount Channel 4 managed over three years (seven… though to be fair, one was double-length). Let’s just hope Brooker doesn’t suddenly develop GRR Martin-syndrome (though presumably he will be working with other writers, like he did before).

Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, who executive produced all the episodes so far, will continue in that role for the new episodes. Brooker has commenced writing the new episodes, which are scheduled to begin production in late 2015.

“It’s all very exciting — a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable,” says Brooker. “Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true.”

The series will premiere internationally in all Netflix territories outside the UK and Ireland. Details of the new episodes’ broadcast here are still being thrashed out but earlier reports suggested that Channel 4 may have a first look deal. It’d be ironic – and very Black Mirror – if it up being made available for binge streaming around the world except in its home country where we’d have to watch it week by week. We can’t seen that happening, though, as it’d be to neither Netflix’s or Channel 4’s advantage.
