MacGyver Reboot On The Way, Cobbled Together From Old Clichés (Probably)

Richard Dean Anderson portrayed MacGyver with the perfect combination of cool and nerdy

US TV is going totally reboot crazy at the moment – The A-Team, Heroes Reborn, The X-Files, Twin Peaks… Now you can add MacGyver to the list of shows being resurrected. Yes, the ’80s action series starring Richard Dean Anderson as a man who could cobble together anything to get himself out of anything is coming back.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS is reimagining the series with a 20-something MacGyver recruited into a clandestine organisation where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening. He clearly hasn’t prevented the disaster of a MacGyver remake.

R Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles) will pen the script and executive produce. Henry (The Fonz) Winkler, who was an executive producer on the original series, is back in the same role. James Wan (Aquaman, Mortal Kombat, Saw) will exec produce and direct the pilot.

The original series ran for seven seasons and 139 episodes. Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki was once tipped to voice Young MacGyver in an animated series, but that never happened.

In related new, Fox is making a TV based on the Lethal Weapon series of films. Why?
