Carrie Anne Moss Role In Jessica Jones Revealed: Female Version Of Male Marvel Character

Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb revealed the role that Carrie Anne Moss (The Matrix) will be playing in the Netflix series Jessica Jones during a panel at New York Comic Con, and it’s a female version of male character from the Marvel comics universe.

That role is Jeryn Hogarth, who was introduced in Iron Fist #6 (1976), and later became the manager of Power Man and Iron Fist’s business, Heroes For Hire. On Jessica Jones, Hogarth hires Jessica as a PI. Presumably, then, she’ll also become a key figure in the upcoming Power Man and Iron Fist Netflix series too.

“The writing is impeccable, the storyline is so rich,” Moss enthused at the panel. “As someone who has embodied that female warrior action character [in The Matrix], to see Krysten Ritter doing it on another level [as Jessica]… I’m thrilled.”

Ritter was on the panel too, full of praise for David Tennant who plays the series’ villain, Killgrave, aka, The Purple Man. “David Tennant is magic… His performance, his range, he could be funny and then incredibly vulnerable.”

After the panel, Marvel surprised attendees with a screening of the full pilot of Jessica Jones. Deadline reports that Krysten Ritter’s Jones is like, “a superpowered Lisbeth Salander (of the Millennium Trilogy), minus the motorcycle, tattoos and hacking skills.” I09 adds, “Jessica kicks ass, makes jokes and is very damaged. Ritter plays her with an underlying brittleness that underscores that, as capable as she is, she is damaged… Just one episode of Jessica Jones was not enough. It is going grab hours from your life and not let go.”

The full season of Jessica Jones debuts on Netflix November 20.
