Rumour Everyone Wants To Be True Of The Day: Marvel Has Fantastic Four Rights Back

UPDATE: Fox and Marvel have both rapidly, officially denied this rumour thus earning themselves Party Poopers Of The Decade. Original story below. (And we’re still hoping the speed at which they denied it means that no smoke with out fire but for moment, nothing to see here folks, move along…)

If a story published by Den Of Geek today is true then there’s a whole extra dimension to the news from earlier today that Fox is developing two X-Men TV series (see here). Because part of Fox’s negotiations with Marvel to be able to go ahead with the series, the Den’s source claims, involved Marvel regaining the rights to the Fantastic Four.

After the recent disastrous Fantastic Four film appears to have made the property toxic, you might think that Fox has walked away with a bargain. On the other hand, with Marvel’s hit rate when it comes to making films from their own characters you can’t help get excited that maybe, finally, somebody will get the Fantastic Four right.

Of course it’s all rumour for the moment, but Den Of Geek’s US sources have a habit of coming up trumps. Plus the same source has “confirmed” that  Galactus, Doctor Doom and the Silver Surfer rights are part of the package to which makes you want the story to be true so badly.

The article reckons, “The deal’s been in the works for some time, we’re told, and further, the timing of Marvel’s recent announcement of its movie slate leading up to the year 2020 and the X-Men TV series is no coincidence. You may remember that there are three, so-far untitled films on Marvel’s schedule in five years’ time. We’re told that one of those films is a Fantastic Four movie.”

We may need a lie down. Please, please nobody burst this bubble…
