Powers Boothe Joins Agents Of SHIELD In “Menacing” Recurring Role

Powers Boothe has joined the cast of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD in a recurring role for season three. It will be a second MCU role for the actor best known for 24, Deadwood and Sin City – he played a member of the World Security Council in Avengers Assemble.

Boothe will play a character named Gideon Malick, officially described as, “a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery”.

“Gideon is incredibly menacing,” says Marvel Television boss, Jeph Loeb, “and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward would fear. Only someone of Powers’ caliber could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed.”

So, it sounds like Gideon Malick may have some connection to Hydra. Or, as Coming Soon speculates, in the comics Albert Malik (second name spelled slightly differently) was the name of the second man to take on the mantle of the Red Skull. Booth is certainly the calibre of actor who could cross over into the films.
