This Is The Colossus Fans Have Been Waiting For, Says Deadpool Actor

The Russian actor playing X-Man Colossus in the upcoming Deadpool movie promises that the character will not only be getting a significant amount of time in the spotlight, but that he’s also very loyal to the character in the comics.

“I think you’re going to get to see more of who Colossus is,” the six foot ten inch tall Andre Tricoteux  reveals in an interview with TechTimes. “The Colossus you’re going to see in Deadpool is very true to the original character in the comic book. [Director] Tim Miller had a really clear vision, and the Deadpool people had a really clear vision of what they wanted. They wanted Colossus to be very traditional to the original story.”

Colossus has appeared in various X-Men movies before, played by Daniel Cudmore in X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Those amounted to little more than cameos, though, which was disappointing for a character who has been a major part of the X-Men comics universe since being introduced in Giant-Sized X-Men #1 in 1975. The Russian mutant who could transform into a superstrong metal man was part of a new team of X-Men, joining alongside Storm, Nightcrawler and Wolverine (though Logan had already been seen in other comics having been introduced in The Incredible Hulk). Since then he’s become a firm fan favourite but his screen appearances have never matched his comic popularity.

Deadpool should change that. “I think you’re going to get to see more of who Colossus is,” says Tricoteux. “I think people will get a better sense of who he is. But I think there’s still a lot more to be told about him. Colossus had been around in the comics since the ’70s, so I mean, I think you could do your own movie on him.” There speaks a man with an eye on his future career.

“I can’t give too much away,” he adds. “We kept it very traditional to the comic book. Actually, we kept it exactly like the comic book, so you could be able to derive your own conclusion from that.” Well, Tricoteux is Russian, so presumably Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin’s nationality is being retained from the comics at the very least.
