Michael Stuhlbarg Cast As Doctor Strange’s Surgeon

Michael Stuhlbarg, fresh from laying Andy Hertzfeld in Steve Jobs, is in final negotiations to play Nicodemus West in Marvel’s Phase Three movie, Doctor Strange, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The films stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme and is set for release in the UK on 28 October 2016. Scott Derrickson (The Day The Earth Stood Still remake) directs.

Michael Stuhlbarg in Men In Black 3, but looking more than ready to follow Doctor Strange to Tibet

In the comics, Nicodemus West is the doctor who operates on Strange after the accident that ruins his hands and ends his own career as a surgeon. Feeling guilty about his failure to repair Strange’s hands, Nicodemus follows Strange on his journey to Tibet to learn about magic.

The films also stars Rachel McAdams in a yet-to-be-confirmed role, Tilda Swinton as Strange’s mentor the Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villain Baron Mordo. Mads Mikkelsen is also rumoured to be in the movie.

Stuhlbarg has appeared in the Coen brothers’ A Serious Man, Hugo, Seven Psychopaths, Lincoln, Blue Jasmine, Men In Black 3 and the HBO series Boardwalk Empire.
