BUZZ News Shorts: X-Men After Apocalypse, Blade Runner 2 & More

vin_diesel••• According to Variety, the Fast & Furious franchise is about to explode in a firestorm of sequels, prequels and spin-off. The fact Straight Outta Compton director F Gary Gray will helm an eighth Fast & Furious movie that will kickstart a new trilogy of films of films is already public knowledge. Now, apparently, Universal Pictures and Vin Diesel are also working on more Fast & Furious related projects. “We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” says Diesel. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.” Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley confirms that talks were taking place. “We’re certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now. It’s an ensemble cast and there’s room to bring characters in and out.” As far as the direct sequels, Variety says those films “will be different in tone from the adventures that preceded them.” “We have a director who is going to bring the darkness out and bring out the character,” says Diesel about Gray.

••• Ryan Gosling has confirmed he will be appearing in the Blade Runner sequel but couldn’t say much more. “Yes. That’s true,” he tells Collider. “There’s a chip in me that will explode if I say anything else.” Blade Runner 2 will be Gosling’s next project, expected to start production in 2016, with a release date yet to be announced.

•••  According to a report on journaldemontreal.com [via ComicBook.com] Fox is already planning the next X-Men movie after Apocalypse, which will once again film in Montreal and be directed by Bryan Singer.

••• AMBI Pictures, having acquired the library of the Exclusive Media Group (which includes movies as Cruel Intentions, Donnie Darko, Rush and Sliding Doors), has annouced that it will be remaking Christopher Nolan’s Memento. Now, we could have a Darth Vader at the end of Revenge Of The Sith moment or we could just politely point out that if anyone ever compiled a Top 10 list of “FILMS THAT CATEGORICALLY DO NOT NEED A REMAKE” Memento would probably top that list.
