•••  Marvel has announced that the trailer for Captain America: Civil War amassed 61 million global views in 24 hours, the largest number ever for a debut trailer. The first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the previous record holder with 55 million views. ••• ABC Family has released four new brief trailers for Shadowhunters, its TV continuation of The Mortal Instruments franchise.

••• Disney XD has ordered a third season of the wonderful Star Wars Rebels. “We are proud to bring our audience a third season of Star Wars Rebels,” says Disney XD boss Marc Buhaj, “a series that has resonated across generations. The creative team behind the series continues to do a brilliant job in delivering on the key tenets that fans have come to expect from a Star Wars property including adventure, hope and the battle between good vs evil.” [via Coming Soon]

••• Christopher McQuarrie has now been officially confirmed as the writer/director on Mission Impossible 6. He performed the same duties on the fifth film, Rogue Nation, and is the first returning director in the frachise’s movie history. [via Coming Soon]

khan••• Star Trek Into Darkness co-scripter Damon Lindelof has admitted to Variety that keeping the Khan twist a secret was a ploy that backfired: “When we did Star Trek Into Darkness for example, we decided that we weren’t going to tell people that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing Khan. And that was a mistake, because the audience was like, ‘We know he’s playing Khan.’ That was why it was a mistake. But JJ [Abrams] is telling us nothing about the new Star Wars movie and we love it. I’ve not come across a single person who’s like, ‘I wish I knew a little bit more.’ We are like, ‘Thank God he’s protecting us from all the things that will be revealed in the movie theatre.’” [via Variety]

••• Chris Hemsworth takes a pragmatic approach to who might win in a fight between Thor and the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok: “I’d like to think I let him win last time [in The Avengers], but because this movie is called Thor, I have to win this time,” he tells the Daily News.

•••  Breaking Bad’s Michael Bowen and Tank Girl’s Lori Petty will be joining Gotham for the second half of season two. Bowen will play Patrick “Matches” Malone – a character from the DC comics universe – while Petty will play Jerri, the “flamboyant and enigmatic hostess of an underground club where mass murder and art are celebrated in equal measure.” Bruce encounters Jerri when he goes looking for more information on who killed his parents.
