M Night Shyamalan To Resurrect Tales From The Crypt

crypt keeperFile this one under “unexpected career moves”. M Night Shyamalan, now back in favour in Hollywood after The Visit spectacularly reversed his run of flops, is to be executive producer on a new version of horror anthology show Tales From The Crypt for US network, TNT.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be teaming up with Kevin Reilly, Sarah Aubrey and the entire TNT team in this unique endeavour,” says Shyamalan in a TNT press release. “To be part of such a beloved brand like Tales From The Crypt, something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into.”

Shyamalan will work alongside Ashwin Rajan who both produced Wayward Pines for FOX last summer. Apparently Tales From The Crypt will form one half of a two-hour horror programming block on the channel but there has been no announcement yet about the show (or shows) will fill the other hour.

Tales From The Crypt started life in comic book form in 195o, in a series that was published by EC until 1955 (although it was actually originally called Crypt Of Terror). In 1972 Amicus produced a Tales From The Crypt film, but most people are familiar with the TV series produced by HBO from 1989 to 1996, with its animatronic host, The Crypt Keeper.

What’s the betting there’ll be a CG, motion-captured Crypt Keeper in the new show?
