BUZZ News Shorts: Leia On Star Wars Rebels, Robin Hood, World War Z Sequel, Casting Han Solo

••• Princess Leia Organa (as she was then) is set to appear in Star Wars Rebels, reports TV Insider. “We thought we had an opportunity to show her learning to be a leader, experimenting with the personality that becomes the stronger more resolute character you see in A New Hope,” says executive producer Dave Filoni says. “One of the complex challenges of depicting Leia in Rebels is that we have to remind the audience that at this point she is part of the Empire. She doesn’t believe in the Empire, but she is acting the part, almost a double agent.” She will not be voiced by Carrie Fisher; actress Julie Dolan, who voiced Leia in the video game Star Wars: Uprising, will return to the role.

••• US TV network ABC – which is already developing one comedy in the Marvel universe called Damage Control, about a team that cleans up the mess after superhero/supervillain clashes have cause mass destruction – is apparently working on another Marvel-flavoured comedy as well.  Speaking to IGN, ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee revealed this second project was underway but wouldn’t confirm what it is about while insisting that it’s a series they “would love” to have on the network.

••• Jamie Foxx has been cast as Little John in Robin Hood: Origins, which stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman) as Robin and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. [via The Hollywood Reporter]

••• FOX in the States is developing a new, as-yet-unnamed time travel comedy series from The Grinder’s Julius “Goldie” Sharpe and Last Man On Earth creators trio Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Seth Cohen. It’s about three friends who find a way to travel through time for truth, justice and riches, which complicates their lives in 2016, says The Hollywood Reporter. They visit some of the greatest moments of the past as they try to resolve their personal problems, while history and pop culture comically collide. Sounds an awful lot like Bill And Ted And Their Other Mate to us.

••• Paramount has confirmed to Deadline that director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) is no longer directing the World War Z sequel: “Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon.”

••• Miles Teller, Dave Franco, Logan Lerman, Ansel Elgort, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner are allegedly among the dozen or so names on the shortlist to play Han Solo in Disney’s standalone Solo Star Wars film, according to Variety. They’ve been whittled down from more than 2,500 actors who were said to be trying for the role.
