BUZZ News Shorts: Star Wars Rogue One, The Flash, Han Solo, Wonder Woman, Mad Max & More

••• File under rumour (or “rumours we hope are true” at least) but according to Making Star Wars Darth Vader will appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Apparently a perfect replica of his A New Hope costume has been made and James Earl Jones has been asked to provide the voice. Considering the nature of the story – it’s about the mission to get hold of the Death Star plans – this doesn’t seem beyond the realms of possibility, and would make a great marketing angle.

••• JJ Abrams has one bit of advice for all those actors vying to be cast young Han Solo in the new Star Wars spin-off movie-after-next: don’t watch the original Star Wars trilogy, “Watch Raiders Of The Lost Ark,” he told Variety. “It’ll all be right there.”

••• Mad Max director George Miller insists he was misquoted and never said he never make another film about Mr Rockatansky. “That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review. She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, another Mad Max movie will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max. It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.” [via Coming Soon]

••• Guillermo del Toro is to direct a big screen version of notorious children’s book Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark by Alvin Schwartz, which is famous for its incredibly freaky artwork. Apparently that art will be a big part in the movie version. Del Toro was eager to prove on Twitter why he was the perfect choice – he actually own some of the original artwork by Stephen Gammell, it seems!

••• Here’s a very brief clip of Wally West taking the piss out of his dad, Joe, in the midseason premier of The Flash, “Potential Energy”.

ChrisPine_0••• Chris Pine has been talking about playing Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman movie. “Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who’s seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilisation. He’s a worldly guy, a charming guy and it’s going to be a great, fun film. There are some incredibly deep, interesting and morally relevant themes. Patty [Jenkins] is just directing the daylights out of it. It’s shot beautifully, feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility. It’s a period we don’t see often; it’s usually World War II. Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I’d never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here. It highlights a really important point. When background casting is done well, it can make or break a scene. I’ve got people in deep background that have entire lives. It’s awesome, it’s actual make-believe land.” [via Coming Soon]

••• Jake Kasdan has signed on to direct Columbia Pictures’ remake of Jumanji, reveals The Hollywood Reporter. The upcoming pic is being described as a new take on the book. Kasdan has previous directed episodes of TV’s Freaks and Geeks and New Girl, as well as the Cameron Diaz black comedy Bad Teacher (2011) and the 2014 comedy Sex Tape. The film is currently due for a 25 December 2016 release so he’ll need to get his skates one.
