From Dr Horrible To Count Olaf: Neil Patrick Harris In A Series Of Unfortunate Events

Neil Patrick Harris, who once played an inept villain in Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, is set to play another evil guy who continually fails in his plans, Count Olaf in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

That’s the role Jim Carrey portrayed in the 2004 film directed by Brad Silberling, who will be directing the new Netflix series as well. Both are based on the Lemony Snicket’s series of children’s novels which have sold more than 65 million copies since debuting in 1999. The stories follow three orphans who are left in the care of the evil Count Olaf who attempts to bump them off in increasingly elaborate schemes to claim their inheritance.

In related news, Mark Hudis is no longer showrunner on the series. Hudis was briefly a showrunner on True Blood but was rapidly replaced halfway through his first season in charge after “stepping down” from the role. [via]
