X-Men TV Series Hellfire Loses Showrunners To New 24 Spin-Off

Shortly after the announcement that Fox in the US was rebooting 24 with a new Jack Bauer-less spin-off comes the news that it’s poached the showrunners for another spin-off Fox is developing, the X-Men-related series Hellfire.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, writers Evan Katz and Manny Coto (Star Trek: Enterprise), who co-created Hellfire, are jumping ship along with co-scripters for the pilot Patrick McKay and John D Payne. Fox is now looking  for a creative team for Hellfire.

Apparently this doesn’t mean Hellfire is in trouble, though. Hellfire was on a slower development track, insiders say, and wasn’t due to go to a pilot this season, while Fox wants to fast-track the 24 spin-off, which is currently being called 24: Legacy. It will not feature any returning cast, with its lead character said to be an African-American guy in his 20s as “different from Jack Bauer as possible” according to one Fox boss.

Hellfire is based on Marvel’s clandestine society of mutant millionaires, The Hellfire Club, who plan to take over the world as much by political machinations as super-powered force. The Hellfire Club featured in X-Men: First Class.
