BUZZ News Shorts: Legion, Alien: Covenant, Taken TV Show & More

Amber_Midthunder••• Amber Midthunder has been added to the cast of Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley’s new X-Men spin-off TV series Legion. According to Deadline she will play Kerry, a “woman of action with a childlike sense of wonder. A true savant, Kerry has lived a sheltered, but never dull life.” Legion is based on a mutant with multiple personality disorder, each of his different personalities having a different power. Plus, Amber Midthunder – what a brilliant superhero name!

mekhi_phifer_and_andre_braugher_split_••• One-time ER star Mekhi Phifer has joined The CW’s Frequency reboot as Lt Satch DeLeon. The Hollywood Reporter describes the character as a “surrogate father” to the show’s central character, Raimy, a female police detective. The series is based on the 200o movie that starred Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel, about a father and son who solve a murder despite being separated by 30 years, using a ham radio that sends messages through time. In the show it’s Raimy who discovers she can use the ham radio to communicate with her father who died in 1996. But then she becomes aware of the butterfly effect of messing with time.

Premiere Of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Sucker Punch" - Arrivals••• Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers, Sucker Punch) to set to star in Powerless, the new US FOX sitcom based in the DC universe. Hudgens will play lead character Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster who loves helping people and keeping a low profile in order to get her work done, who faces increasing frustration with the destructive antics of superheroes in her city. demianalien••• Demian Bichir (A Better Life, The Hateful Eight) has been added to the cast of director Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Bichir joins Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride. There’s no news yet on who he’ll playing (but he looks like a “company man” if you know what we mean). [via Deadline]

Clive_standen••• Vikings star Clive Standen (Rollo) has been cast in NBC’s Taken TV series as CIA operative Bryan Mills, a younger version of the Liam Neeson character from the film franchise, according to The Hollywood ReporterHomeland’s Alexander Carry is set to write the script for the pilot episode which will be directed by Alex Graves (Game Of Thrones, Homeland) will direct the pilot. The Taken TV series will be a prequel to the films, exploring the early life of the Liam Neeson character (although it’ll be set in the present day).
