BUZZ News Shorts: The Punisher, 24: Legacy, Ash Vs Evil Dead & More

••• Marvel movie and TV boss Jeph Loeb has said that rumours of a Punisher TV series are premature. “I think that’s something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that’s actually happening,” Loeb told Digital Spy. “It’s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them.” However, he then goes on the admit that Netflix doesn’t always keep him in the loop, so who knows? “When they announced that Jessica Jones was getting a second season, every single report said, ‘It should come as a surprise to no one that Jessica Jones has received a second season order.’ I’m the guy going, ‘Well, it was a surprise to me!’ It isn’t a given in television. The fact that we get to continue telling stories with these characters speaks a lot about the quality of the storytelling and the acting and the writing. We are telling the best stories that we can at Netflix, and they seem to be responding to it.”

••• Deadline has announced that Mouzam Makkar (The Following, The Vampire Diaries, American Horror Story), Carl Beukes (Gabriel in Syfy’s Dominion) and Tongayi Chirisa (Sleepy Hollow, American Horror Story) have been cast as series regulars on the CW’s Untitled Mars Project pilot. Written by Doris Egan (Reign), the thriller follows an explorer team that arrives on Mars to join the first human colony on the planet, only to discover that their predecessors have vanished. Makkar will play Devi, Beukes is Santos, and Chirisa plays Carmack. All are part of the team of explorers sent to join the Mars colony.

••• Teddy Sears, who plays Jay Garrick (aka, Earth-2’s The Flash) in The Flash has been cast in Fox’s 24: Legacy reboot. He will play Keith Mullins, the new head of the Counter Terrorist Unit. He joins a cast that includes Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings).

••• Michelle Hurd (The Glades) will play a new regular character in the second season of Ash vs Evil Dead. According to Deadline Hurd will play the former high school sweetheart of Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams.

••• Selma director Ava DuVernay is set to helm Disney’s movie adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s multi-award-winning 1962 novel A Wrinkle In Time. The story revolves around a young girl whose father, a government scientist, has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract.
