Summer In The City, the UK’s foremost live event celebrating the online video community, has a new owner with an ambition to make it bigger and better than ever before.

MCM has acquired Summer In The City, which was founded in 2009 and is held at Excel London. Summer In The City celebrates the ever-expanding area of online video and the vibrant community that surrounds it, attracting content creators, their viewers and the wider entertainment industry.

Featuring panels, live performances and special guest meet-and-greets, Summer In The City is not only a great weekend of entertainment for YouTube fans, but also an ideal space for online video creators to engage with their viewers and each other. This year’s Summer In The City will take place on 12-14 August.

Here’s a flavour of what it’s all about…

“We’re delighted that Summer in the City has joined the MCM family,” says Bryan Cooney, MCM managing director. “The show fits perfectly into our market position as the UK’s leading popular culture events company and we look forward to working with co-founders/directors Dave Bullas and Tom Burns, building on their already incredible event to take Summer In The City to even greater heights.”

“Becoming part of MCM Central marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Summer In The City,” says Tom Burns. “I’m proud of everything Dave and I have achieved up until this point, but can’t wait to see the event go a leap further as it benefits from the support and experience that Bryan Cooney and his team have to offer. Dave and I will continue to remain a large part of Summer in the City, ensuring that the event’s heart and soul remain in place as we set off on this exciting new chapter.”

“We are thrilled to become a part of the MCM Central,” added Dave Bullas. “To have the backing of such a great team will allow us to take our event to new heights, and develop our company in a way we could not do alone. It was important to Tom and me that we continued to personally organise Summer in the City, to ensure that the ethos and values of the event remain at a time of great opportunity for expansion.”

MCM’s acquisition of Summer In The City follows the launch of its MCM Central brand earlier this year, designed to further expand and diversify the company’s portfolio of events. New shows debuting in 2016 include London videogames festival GamerMania, Midlands-based tabletop gaming event Strategy and MCM Comic Cons in Brussels and Hannover.
