Final Jackman Solo Wolverine Movie Cast Its Villain

Hugh Jackman’s final solo film as Wolverine has cast its main villain in the form of Boyd Holbrook, who played DEA agent Steve Murphy on the acclaimed Netflix drama Narcos, reports Deadline.

Holdbrook will play a character that is described as “a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Wolverine.” While rumours persist that the film will be based on the “Old Man Logan” comic book mini-series from 2008-9 (which is set in a future ruled by supervillains in which an aged and weary Logan helps form a new superhero resistance) there are no characters in that which seem to correspond to that description. That doesn’t rule out the “Old Man Logan” concept entirely; Marvel films often veer massively way from their source material while maintaining core concepts.

Deadline says that a May start date is being planned for the film. David James Kelly will write the script with The Wolverine helmer James Mangold set to direct again. Patrick Stewart will also be starring in the movie. Jackman has hinted heavily that we will see a full-on “berserker rage” in the film.

It also seem likely that in the wake of the success of Deadpool, Fox will push for a R-rating for the film… which could mean a very bloody “berserker rage”.

Boyd Holbrook has also appeared in films such as Milk, Gone Girl and Run All Night.
