Australian actor David Wenham, who played Boromir’s brother Faramir in The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers and The Return Of The King, has joined the cast of Netflix’s next Marvel series, Iron Fist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Wenham will play Harold Meachum, a ruthless corporate leader who was partners with the parents of Iron Fist’s alter ego Danny Rand at the time of their deaths. The role he plays in Danny’s past and future will be revealed over the course of the series. In the comics, Meachum was an important part of Iron Fist’s origin story and made his debut in the same issue (Marvel Premiere #15, 1974) that introduced Iron Fist to the Marvel universe.

The fourth Marvel/Netflix series, Iron Fist is about Danny Rand, a native New Yorker raised in K’un-L’un, an alternate-dimension city where he attained those martial arts and supernatural skills. In the series, Danny returns to the Big Apple after being missing for four years and uses his kung fu skills to fight against the criminals corrupting the city.

Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) plays Danny Rand, while Jessica Henwick plays Colleen Wing. Dexter’s Scott Buck is the showrunner. Iron Fist will premier after Luke Cage, which debuts in September.

In related news, Daredevil star Charlie Cox revealed at a Netflix event in Paris (via Independent/Comic Book) that The Defenders – the series that will combine all the stars of the various Netflix/Marvel series – will start filming this year: “What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those worlds combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.”

He’s not sure, though, if the dangling plot threads from Daredevil season two will be addressed in The Defenders or Daredevil season three, if that happens: “In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.” Well, that answers that.
