BUZZ News Shorts: Game Of Thrones, Wolverine 3, Watership Down

••• The Games Of Thrones season six premier managed to achieve a new ratings high for the series in the States, with 10.7 million viewers when the live and online streaming numbers were added up, says The Hollywood Reporter. That’s more than the previous record of 10.3 million viewers who watched Jon Snow cop it in the season five finale.

••• Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Amazing Spider-Man 2) is in talks to star in The Happytime Murders, a project that’s been in development hell over at the Jim Henson Company for years now. More adult in tone than Henson’s usual shows, it sounds like a puppet spin on Who Framed Roger Rabbit but a darned sight more film noir and with an R-rating. Deadline reports that Foxx has entered negotiations to play a leading role. Here’s the old synopsis (things may have changed): “In a world where puppets co-exist with humans as second class citizens, puppet private eye and disgraced ex-cop, Phil Phillips, is hot on the trail of the serial killer who murdered his brother and is now targeting the cast members of the famous ’80s television show, “The Happytime Gang.” As the killings continue, Phil’s former flame, Jenny, is next on the list. It’’s up to Phil and his ex-partner, Detective Edwards, to find the culprit, but as bad blood and old resentments resurface the clues start pointing to the only viable suspect, Phil himself. Now he’’s on the run with only his wits and hard headed determination, as he tries to solve, “The Happytime Murders.””

••• The Office co-creator Stephen Merchent has been cast in Wolverine 3. No news yet as what, but we’re guessing somebody tall and gangly. [via]
