BUZZ News Shorts: Young Han Solo Casting, Civil War, Darkover, Irredeemable & More

••• According to Variety, Captain America: Civil War has already made over a quarter of a billion at the global box office before it has even opened in the US. With the film opening in Russia, Argentina, the US and China for its second weekend expect that tally to more than double over next few days.

Alden Ehrenreich

••• Although not official yet, dozens of sites (including The Wrap) are now reporting that Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich is – as widely expected – will be the new young Han Solo for Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. We’re just waiting for Disney and Lucasfilm to issue their press releases.

••• According to Deadline, Marion Zimmer Bradley’s extensive Darkover book series is heading for TV. According to Deadline, Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost) and Patrick Macmanus (Marco Polo) will write and executive produce the TV adaptation for Amazon. Launched in 1958, Darkover is a 25 book series mixing fantasy and sci-fi tracing the development of a civilisation from its inadvertent founding on a distant planet by a group of human colonists through war-torn feudal ages to recontact 2,000 years later with their Earthly descendants.

••• Adam McKay (The Big Short) is set to direct a big screen adaptation of the Mark Waid and Peter Krouse comic book series Irredeemable for 20th Century Fox Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) will provide the script. The 2009-2o12 comic book series is about a Superman-style superhero, The Plutonian, who turns evil, and his old team-mates in the Justice League-alike “The Paradigm” have to take him down. The series ran concurrently with another title, Incorruptible, chronicling the reformation of former supervillain Max Damage who becomes a hero after witnessing the atrocities committed by Plutonian. BUZZ really hopes he’s part of the plans for the film. [via ComingSoon]

••• Here’s another gorgeous poster for Kubo And The Two Strings.

Elise Neal••• Elise Neal (Scream 2, Hollywood Divas) has been cast in Wolverine 3. Like 80% of the casting announcements for the film (Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant and Eriq La Salle), we have no idea who she’ll be playing.

Elizabeth Debicki••• Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager, The Man From UNCLE), has joned the cast of Bad Robot’s upcoming space-based sci-fi film God Particle. She joins David Oyelowo (Interstellar) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who, Concussion, Beyond the Lights). A low budget film, it concerns the crew of an American space station that, after an accident with a particle accelerator, finds that the Earth has vanished. Then they pick up traces of another space station nearby. (Sounds like the pilot to Odyssey 5)
